Harrison Denning Mason scrapbook, 1903-1927.

This collection consists of a scrapbook created by Mason to document his time at Penn State as well as his activities on numerous baseball teams. The collection is mostly newspaper clippings pertaining to the football, basketball, track, and baseball teams' games and training. There are also clippings about university construction, the death of President Atherton, the student strike in 1905, the Charleroi Church League baseball teams and the Sunbury, Pa., baseball teams, for which Mason played. In addition to the newspaper clippings, there are football schedules, a map of Pittsburgh, two photographs of a forest, two letters related to mining, and poems written by Mason.

Harrison Denning "Joe" Mason Jr., of Allegheny, Pennsylvania, graduated from Penn State in 1907 with a degree in mines and metallurgy. He worked for Charleroi Coal for three years as a mining engineer before becoming a mining engineer for the United States Government Bureau of Mines. Mason was responsible for motivating the College to use the Nittany Lion as Penn State's mascot.
